LESSONS AT INISHMORE DOWNS

We offer several options for lessons for beginning riders to more advanced students wishing to show on a circuit or at the regional level.

PRIVATE LESSONS

Regular Private Lessons are suited for riders with some experience, typically those that can walk and trot without assistance. We teach Basic Balanced Position riding in all disciplines. The traditional Hunter Seat Equitation style formalized by George H Morris is the foundation of our Hunter Jumper instruction. Classical dressage instruction borrows time tested principles from great masters, and we do not subscribe to "quick fixes" or riding with a strong hand. Eventing instruction concentrates education on conditioning, galloping, and horse/rider fitness in addition the classical dressage and over fences work. Students are expected to participate in lessons and become knowledgeable in both their riding and horse management skills. Verbalizing knowledge is a part of our core belief, and students are challenged in lessons to be thinking participants.

SUMMER LESSONS FOR BEGINNERS

Inishmore Downs offers a Summer Lesson Series for Beginners. These lessons are designed for beginning riders with limited experience or no experience. There are 7 lessons in the series, each consisting of: a horse management lesson, a private riding lesson, and a Bible lesson.

Larger lesson barns often don't have the staff or time to spend with beginners. The timid are thrown into group lessons with the brave, and it can be an overwhelming experience. We keep our operation personal so that the beginner gets time and attention in the early phases of riding.

Our Beginner Lesson Series is most appropriate for children ages 8 and above. "Riding Experiences" are offered for younger children. Call us to discuss which might be most appropriate for your child. Classes are limited, so contact us early.

RIDING EXPERIENCES

Riding Experiences consist of an unmounted lesson (grooming, tacking up, leading a horse) and a mounted lesson conducted on lead line or longe line. This is most appropriate for small children, siblings, and extreme beginners age 8 or younger.
